Demons and Wizards- Touched by the Crimson King: WOW!! That was the first expression I uttered when I first bought and listened to this album! It totally rocks! I love every song on this album, but my favorites are Crimson King, Beneath These Waves, The Gunslinger, Love's Tragedy Asunder, Wicked Witch, Down Where I Am, Lunar Lament, and Spatial Architects. My only dissapointment about this album was it wasn't all based on King's Dark Tower Series, that theme stops with song 7, and there's 14 songs on the album, counting the remix of Wicked Witch and the edited version of Beneath These Waves. Mercyful Fate-Don't Break the Oath- Ah! My first Mercyful Fate album, and boy does it rock! I was so happy when I found this at my local cd store. It has been labeled MF's (don't take that abbreviation the wrong way, guys! We come from the age of chivalry. Metal machines unchained and free!

DIO- "Killing the Dragon": I must say that this is a pretty solid DIO album, and that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The music on it is great, and of course, DIO shines as always with his powerful vocals. However, I have heard that there were some DIO fans that strongly disliked this album. The only thing I disliked about it was the song "Cold Feet". To me it sounded really weak and rushed. Other than that, the album was great. My favorite songs were "Killing the Dragon", "Along Comes a Spider", "Better in the Dark", "Push", "Guilty", and "Throw Away Children". Savatage-"Streets: A Rock Opera": This is my first Savatage album, and all I got to say is WOW!! Eye for an eye,

first and foremost. good purchases, raisty. i love both of those albums. especially streets. savatage is awesome, and that album is incredible. now on to new business. for those of you who don't know what hudson's salvage center is, it's my favorite place in the world. it's where stores that get overstocks, or catch fire or something like that send all their supplies that they can't sell, including cds. oh yeah. and the cd's were being sold this particular weekend at 90% off!!!! AHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! so i bought a couple...
Adagio - Sanctus Ignis - awesome musicianship, and a great version of zeppelin's immigrant song Ayreon - Universal Migrator Pts. I & II - very cool prog album. the first cd is great. very soft and spacey and proggy. good stuff. and wow!! the second cd is great! just from the first song, it's great. all the songs are heavier and more metal than the first cd. and they've got some great singers as well, (Russell Allen, Ralf Scheepers, Bruce Dickinson!!!, etc.) highly recommend this one. Blind Guardian - Follow the Blind - one of their early ones and pretty different than stuff like imaginations from the other side, but very good still Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth - pretty cool album, though i must say i still like imaginations the best, but this is a good concept album Chris Caffery - Faces (w/ The Damn War CD) - i was very surprised by this album. i didn't think it would be that good judging from some of the clips i heard, but i like this one a lot. very diversified. don't like the damn war a whole lot, but it's got some good songs. Falconer - Grime vs. Grandeur - i like this one a good bit. these guys play some cool riffs and guitar parts and do a pretty good job mixing power metal with sort of more modern heavy metal. Iron Saviour - Battering Ram - good stuff. straight up power metal! great!! Manowar - the Triumph of Steel - gotta be honest (don't hate me), but i don't like manowar very much, but this album has some cool stuff on it. i'll definitely keep it close to my stereo. Primal Fear - Black Sun - man, can these guys make a bad album? i love this band. heavy adrenaline-pumping metal with great ralf scheepers vocals!!! Rob Rock - Holy Hell - his newest one and a great one. i like this guys voice. and roy z plays guitar on the album. can't beat that. Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes - this is more of a classic rock album at this point, but i still consider the scorpions metal. good live album with a bunch of good songs. Van Halen - for unlawful carnal knowledge - one of the better van-hagar albums. plenty of good, non-sappy songs on this one. so that's, what... 12 CDs. imagine how much that normally costs. then subtract 90%!!!! yep i got all these for under 20 bucks!!! everybody gets lucky once in a while. so do yourself a favor folks, if you ever happen to pass one by, drop in and take a look. they may not always have cds, but if they do, they'll be at the least half off. |

Nice haul, Maidenrulz!
Have to love the 15min drum solo on Triumph of Steel eh. I just scored a few cheap used discs at a local shop. Mourning Beloveth- A Murderous Circus (some quality depressing doom/death, similar to My Dying Bride) Thor- Triumphant - Canadian version of Manowar! decent old school true metal with some great anthems. You know its a good band when they have a song called 'Throwing cars at people on coke with Thor'. |

COOL! I just turned 34 too. Happy B-day to us both!
I just got my greedy mitts on; Helloween - Keepers...Legacy (the Japanese version! ) Best album since Time of the Oath!! Primal Fear - 7 Seals Great Primal Fear album. The song "Evil Spell" is just AWSOME!! Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet? They revamped their sound but still retained their trademarks in the music! No bad, but it sounds like classic CoB mixed with modern Soilwork. |

Happy Birthday Draconis!
Anyway, I just recently purchased "The Triumph of Steel" by Manowar, and I must say it's a truly awesome album. I love all the songs so much I can't pick just one as my favorite. It's a lot better than the earlier Manowar album I have, "Fighting the World", imo. Yet, there's something I don't quite get: why in the heck does "Fighting the World" and "Triumph of Steel" and all the other Manowar albums have parental advisory: explicit content stickers on them?!! There's nothing explicit in there at all, unless you consider all the warfare lyrics, i.e., splitting skulls, breaking bones, spilling blood, etc. That's kind of wierd. Eye for an eye,

alright!!! new stuff
Saxon - Lionheart - great power metal. my first of their CDs. i like them. nothing incredible or out of this world, but nothing bad or boring. good stuff. Saxon - Dogs of War - pretty good album. not at all really power metal though. it's more a cross between 70s/80s rock and hair metal. very wierd after first hearing Lionheart. still a bunch of good songs on it. very enjoyable. Primal Fear - Seven Seals - finally!!! i've been waiting very anxiously to get this and now i have it. great stuff. you're right draconis, evil spell IS awesome! love seven seals, too!!! Helloween - The Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy - i've been wanting this one, too. glad i got it. pretty wierd stuff on it, and song styles i didn't expect to hear from the band. but a good album nonetheless. and i would like to publicly apologize for slamming Mrs. God a couple of months ago. BECAUSE I LOVE THAT SONG NOW!!! it's extremely catchy and i just love the chorus, as simple as it is. it's kind of like how i didn't like maniac dance from the new stratovarius record before it came out, but i love that one now, too. i've gotta stop passing judgement so soon. and i know they're not really metal, but just got Motorhead - Ace of Spades, too. killer stuff!!! |

just got Aeronautics by Masterplan, and it is awesome!!! i love this band. jorn lande is one of the coolest singers out there. he can sing classic rock, glam metal, power metal, etc... he's great. and the band sounds great. excellent energetic metal. i've got to get their first one now.

Aeronautics is a great album and the song "Wounds" is my fav track, but I still liked the 1st album better. Plus, the debute cd has Michael Kiske on it!!
When you get the 1st album, you have to hear the song, "Crawling From Hell"!! Oh, and the song "Kind Hearted Light" kind of indirectly bashes Helloween but it is not obvious. |

oh yes!!!! a new batch of good music.
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera, this one i was kind of setting aside for later when i first heard the band, but i love this cd. it's great! Pagan's Mind - enigmatic: the calling, these guys are great. excellent cd. definitely need to get some more of their stuff. Sebastian Bach and Friends - Bring 'em Back Alive, this one i got because it was a free selection, but wow do i like it. the studio songs are fairly good, but the live skid row songs kick!!! i need some skid row now. Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor, my first nevermore album, and probably not my last. this album is ANGRY and HEAVY and MEAN and GOOD!! the first track scared me because the first lyrics were done through growls, and i thought, great... this sucks (i hate growlers). but it fit the song, and i didn't mind it so much. also it was the only growl on the album. good stuff, jeff loomis is a great guitarist. Gamma Ray - Majestic, SWEET!!!!!! from the beginning of the first track i loved this album. that first song hit me, just... POW!! awesome album. a great improvement over the (in my opinion) slightly disappointing No World Order. Queensryche - Hear in the Now Frontier, not a bad one. got it for 4 bucks so it was definitely worth it. their later albums aren't terrible, just not as good as the earlier stuff. Steve Vai - The Ultra Zone, not really a metal album. but a little warning. probably don't go for this one first if trying to get into Vai. very wierd album, even for him. cool stuff though. Hammerfall - Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken, i would like to totally apologize about my comments on their singer i made a while back. i still don't think their older stuff is great, but this album i like a lot. nothing new in the world of power metal, just a straight up good album. and the singer sounds great in it! good stuff, he really does have the power i earlier said he lacked. Ayreon - The Human Equation, wow. what can i say. great album. probably, no, definitely better than The Universal Migrator Pts. 1 and 2 (which i LOVED). this album is very well thought out. arjen is a genius!!! the music is good and has a great variety, and all the singers are great!!! i highly recommend this to any prog metal fan!!! |

wow, i've been spending a lot of money lately. but it's all worth it!!!!
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Looking Glass (DVD), this is a great concert. they play everything fast and intense, and Hansi sings everything great. very good backing vocals from the band, too. excellent DVD!! also... I got for Christmas (my mommy got it for me) Guitar Hero for Playstation 2!!! This game is awesome. And even though it's not exclusively metal songs on there, there are a lot of true metal songs you can play. Iron Man, Cowboys from Hell, Bark at the Moon, You Got Another Thing Comin', Symphony of Destruction... well that's really ALL the metal songs on there, but plenty of good ole' fashion classic rock songs. great game. i play real guitar, and it's of course, not really similar, but it is fun. in fact it's REALLY FUN!!! i love this game. it gets pretty complicated. anyway. enough babbling. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't talked to ya for a bit, I've been really busy over the holidays. Wow!! 2005 went by faster than a bullet, didn't it?!!!
-Stratovarius: "Self-Titled": WOWWOWOWOWOWOW!! That's all I can say about this album! I've always absolutely loved Stratovarius and viewed them as the "High Priests of Power Metal", and I've got two of their songs on a power metal sampler cd called "Symphonies of Steel"; "Kiss of Judas"-a solid tune, and "Father Time"- the classic Strato-tune by which all power metal must be judged! But, the only album I've ever had by them up till now was "Elements Part I", which I sold because I felt that the band had lost their touch, and I got to admit, despite the positive reviews, I had a bit of trepidation before I listened to this album, but once I started this baby up, I was in PM heaven!! Primal Fear-"Seven Seals"; Wow! These guys are awesome! If Primal Fear doesn't come the closest in sound and style to Judas Priest, tell me what power metal band does!! -Edguy: "Hall of Flames"- This is my first Edguy album, and what better way to start out than with a "best of" collection, eh? Tears of a Mandrake To Jerusalem -I loved the Celtic sound on this one! Out of Control- Very great, dark-sounding track that reminded me a lot of the story of the Black Wizard Joseph Whattley from Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. And it had guest vocals by Blind Guardian's Hansi Kursch! That's certainly a plus! Headless Game Scarlet Rose-Very touching, beautiful power ballad. Almost made me cry. Vainglory Opera- OH MAN!! This is the BEST song on this album imo! Theater of Salvation-Very epic, uplifting, operatic, and awe-inspiring tune Land of the Miracle- Another great ballad. Very neoclassical feel to it. The Unbeliever I didn't like the bonus cd so well, but the main collection was great! Eye for an eye,

Nevermore - Dead Heart in a Dead World, This Godless Endeavor was my first Nevermore album, and I love it, so I bought this when I saw it. It's a pretty good album. It unfortunately has a lot more nu elements in it, but not too bad. Some really great songs, especially the title track, and an AWESOME cover of The Sound of Silence.
Falconer - The Sceptre of Deception, I really liked Grime Vs. Grandeur. some great songs and guitar work. This album will grow on me a little, but it just seems a little weaker than the new one. some cool stuff on it, though. And now the best... No disappointment here. Whitesnake - Live in the Still of the Night DVD/CD, words... gone... This DVD is GREAT!!! 15 songs of pure pleasure. Good audio and video, nice editing, and the actual concert is AWESOME!!!!!! The band is incredible... Reb Beach, Tommy Aldridge, Marco and Timothy, DOUG ALDRICH, and of course... the man... David Coverdale. Incredible performance by the band, including a great drum solo (very enjoyable to watch, reminds me of animal from the muppets). Now I'm not going to lie and say Coverdale sounds "better than ever" because he doesn't. He can't quite nail the songs like on the CDs, but I was really surprised with some of those notes he could belt out. He can still get up there, man!!! And his low bluesy voice sounded great. And there was even a short little documentary on there. The CD only had 10 of the songs and is disappointing in the fact that it didn't include Bad Boys or Cryin' in the Rain, nor does it have the Doug Aldrich solo. But all in all, my best purchase so far this year. I'm so pleased, and yet there's so much stuff coming out this year. Mindcrime II, Outworld's debut (Rusty Cooley's band), I think Dio's new one, and a bunch other that I can't remember. It's gonna be a great 2006. METAL!!! |

Re: re | ||

Yeah, Falconer: The Scepter of Deception is great! I just love the medieval sound of the songs and the concept of the warring Norse kingdoms that it's based on. I love Whitesnake too, they remind me of the Joe Lynn Turner Era of Rainbow in their sound. Of course , they're kind of connected to Rainbow since Coverdale was once the lead singer of another awesome band, Ritchie Blackmorre's Deep Purple, and Ritchie Blackmore later formed Rainbow in the mid-70s. I think Bobby Rondinelli, the drummer for the JLT era of Rainbow also drummed for Whitesnake for a while, so, because of these reasons, maybe Whitesnake was inspired by Rainbow's sound.
I gotta admit I never could bring myself to get into Nevermore though. As for me, I recently got my hands on the new Hammerfall CD: "Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken" and MSG's (The McAuley-Schenker Group) self-titled cd. The cds are both awesome and I can't pick out a favorite song from either one of them because I love them all! Eye for an eye,

New additions-
Akercocke- Deeds the go unspoken (not quite what i was expecting, really progressive and lots of clean vocals, but still very good) Emperor- Anthems to the welkin at dusk- epic ! Classic! Old Man's Child- Pagan prosperity- melodic black metal with keys (not bad at all) My Dying Bride- like gods of the sun- Masterful...(similar to angel and the dark river) but i have a huge bias towards anything by these guys. |

Finally, got some new tunes!
Dragonlord - Black Wings of Destiny It is a lot like the first album but with clear vocals thrown into the mix. Dragonland - Starfall 3rd release is a bit watered down. Not sure what to think of this one yet... Place Vendome Michael Kiske on vocals!!! This is like a "Journey meets melodic hard rock" sound. Kiske sounds great and music is well writin. |

Iron Maiden - Death on the Road (DVD)
This is a great concert. I already have the cd and think it's ok, but watching the performance is AWESOME!!! Very nice and long documentary on various aspects of making Dance of Death and the tour. Boy, do I love this band. I'd kill to see them live. Can't wait for their next studio album. Nocturnal Rites - Grand Illusion I like this cd a good bit. I was a little disappointed by New World Messiah (only slightly). Because the two previous albums were really good. I'm starting to get annoyed with their guitar tone (hopefully someone knows what I mean). It just sounds too electronic. The guitar tones on Afterlife were heavy and crunchy and good, but they sound weak these days. But the music is still really good, the vocals are exceptional. My only real problem with this album is that one of the songs incorporates death vocals. And not to make anyone mad, but I HATE death vocals and growls and grunts and all that. I've gotta have real singers. But I've accepted the placement of these vocals as it kinda fits the dark nature of the song. Pretty good song, too. Great album, though. Better than the last one. Oh yeah... Almost forgot... Mastodon - Leviathan I don't know what to make of these guys. First off, I don't like the singer much. But the music and lyrics are pretty good. What I can't figure out is why they can't stick to a sound. A bunch of songs, I hear the music and think wow, this is pretty technical and aggressive, but then all of a sudden they throw in some dumb nu-metal/generic low-tuned riff in there. I just can't see why all their stuff can't be good. The album is pretty good and has some great parts to it, but the musicians seem to be a lot better than the album exhibits. Oh well... I don't regret at all buying this album, though. |
