even though i livein the USA, i think europe has the best metal. they got bandslike Dragonforce, Heavenly, Iron Savior, and Hammerfall. I am just upset about the present state of music in Usa. do any of you know of tru meatl bands forn the USA. I mean someone along the lnes of Dragonforce or somthing.

It's hard to find a band quite like dragonforce, but Savatage, Queensryche, Symphony X, Steel Prophet, Metal Church, Megadeth and Metallica are great american metal though they are few. It sounds like Symphony X and Steel Prophet might be your best bets.

Manowar is definitely the exception. You have to keep in mind, that Europe is a different culture with different practices, different influences, and different reasons to put a band together. Certain sub cultures form in different parts of the world and to introduce something new into that sub culture is very difficult. If you formed a band like Dragonforce in the USA, all the people buying your records would naturally be from Europe because that is where the power metal sub culture is primarily located. Then, armed with this knowledge, your band would tour closer to your fans and eventually sign to a label more closely in touch with your fanbase. The next thing you know, very few people even know your band was formed in the USA. Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore, thanks to the information age and the internet, the world of music is open. There are no longer the media boundries that once existed.

Virgin Steele. imo they are one of the best true metal bands ever. The lyrics and tunes are catchy, they have amazing guitarists, and last but not least they're soooo cheesy (which is always a good thing).

hey guys...manowar is extremely badass...but keep in mind they are only really popular in europe....even though i live in the usa and i LOVE them....and dream theater is easily the most skilled metal band instrumentally....iced earth is also extremely badass

My work buddy and I are metal freaks and we were just talking about this subject on Europe being the hot bed of metal right now. When I look at the metal cd's I am purchasing, 95% of those bands are from Europe. South America is another country that is crazy for metal right now.
Well thats it!! I'm packing my bags!!......

i live in the states also, and it does seem that all the good metal bands now are coming out of europe. the only usa bands that i listen to now is the old school bands like slayer and megadeth. the current metal scene is the states suck, the only thing american metal bands do is scream, no one sings anymore

Europe does have the best metal.
However, Manowar, Iced Earth and Dio are from the US though and they're all good. Some people may like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer who are also from America. 'It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.'

The Quiet Room, Steel Prophet, and Jacobs Dream comes to mind when it comes to real metal bands in the U.S. But yeah, over all the U.S. lacks pretty bad.
