You see, my best friend Jessica says she's into all kind of music, so one day I decided to try to expose her to true metal, only, because I wasn't thinking, I picked the wrong band, Emperor, and as most of you know, that's way too extreme a band to start anyone out on! I let her listen to part of the song "Cosmic Keys to my Creation and Times", and her eyes went wide. When she put down the earphones she was like, "What in the hell was that?!! That was freakin' psycho!" As soon as she said that, embarrassedly, I realized what I had done wrong. A few weeks later, I decided to expose her to a more tamer TM band, Iron Maiden. I let her listen to "The Flight of Icarus" and she really liked it. Now, unfortunately, she's not really a fist-pumping true metal fan, but she isn't opposed to listening to it every once in a blue moon.
Now with some people, you just can't get them to like true metal whatever you do. Take my sister's boyfriend for example, he's into all that alterno/nu-metal/pop/rap crap. I tried to get him to listen to "Power" by Helloween, and he said that he really didn't like it, that it sounded as if the guitarist was "trying too hard" on the intro. I was like "WHAAAT?!!!" I guess for him, striking more than two chords on the guitar is "trying too hard".
So, those are my experiences, what about yours?
And the whole world will be blind,
Oceans of madness
drowning the whole of mankind,
What kind of man kills because of ideology,
What kind of God justifies violence
